Standard Back Rails

Standard back rails provide horizontal support across traditional closeboard and feather edge fence panels. They are suitable for panel repairs, replacement work and building lighter-duty framed fencing sections.

Heavy Duty Back Rails

Arris Rails

Motorway Rails

Wall Plates

Choosing the Right Rail

Choose the rail profile according to the fencing system and level of support required. Standard back rails are suitable for traditional panel construction, while heavy duty rails provide increased support for more substantial panels.

Arris and cant rails are commonly used for closeboard fencing built on site, while motorway rails are suitable for post and rail boundaries and other strong horizontal applications. Wall plates should be selected where a secure fixing point is required against masonry.

Check the required length, timber section and treatment before ordering. Include an allowance for cuts, joints, damaged pieces and site adjustments when calculating quantities.

Installation and Care

Secure rails using suitable exterior-grade galvanised nails, screws, brackets or specialist rail fixings. Ensure each rail is level, properly supported and correctly spaced before attaching feather edge boards or other fencing components.

Where pressure-treated timber is cut or drilled, apply a suitable end-grain treatment to exposed areas. Avoid prolonged direct ground contact and provide adequate drainage around the completed fencing system.
