Carcassing Timber

Explore our range of carcassing timber for structural framing, fencing, landscaping and general outdoor construction projects. Carcassing timber provides strong and practical sections suitable for building supporting frameworks, joists, rails, garden structures and other applications where dependable timber strength is required.

Our range includes pressure-treated timber options designed for exterior use. Pressure treatment helps improve resistance to rot, fungal decay and general weather exposure, making treated carcassing timber suitable for many garden and landscaping applications.

Carcassing timber can be used for decking subframes, fence rails, shed framing, raised platforms, garden structures and general support work. It can be cut, drilled and fixed on site, providing flexibility for professional installers, builders and DIY projects.

Available products may include different timber sections, lengths and treatment specifications. Always check the individual product dimensions, grading and intended use before ordering, particularly where the timber will form part of a load-bearing structure.

Choosing the Right Carcassing Timber

Choose the timber section according to the span, load and level of support required. Larger sections are generally more suitable for structural applications, while smaller sections may be used for framing, rails and lighter support work.

Check the timber grade and intended use before installing it as part of a load-bearing structure. Structural projects should be designed with appropriate joist spacing, support points, fixings and bracing.

Select lengths that minimise unnecessary joints and waste. Include an allowance for cuts, overlaps and site adjustments when calculating the total quantity required.

Installation and Care

Use suitable exterior-grade screws, nails, bolts or brackets for the installation. Support longer sections properly during fitting and pre-drill near the ends where necessary to reduce the risk of splitting.

Where pressure-treated timber is cut or drilled, apply a suitable end-grain treatment to exposed areas. Keep timber clear of prolonged ground contact where possible and provide adequate drainage and ventilation around the finished structure.

For structural or load-bearing work, follow the relevant building guidance and seek professional advice where required.
