Fence Posts

Explore our range of fence posts for building secure, correctly supported and long-lasting garden boundaries. Fence posts form the main structural support for a fencing system, helping hold panels, rails, boards and gravel boards in position while keeping the complete fence run straight and stable.

Our range includes timber fence posts, slotted concrete posts and modern steel DuraPost® options for different installation methods and project requirements. Whether you are installing closeboard panels, decorative panels, waney lap fencing, trellis or traditional post and rail fencing, selecting the correct post type and length is essential.

Timber posts provide a traditional appearance and are suitable for a wide range of garden fencing projects. Concrete posts offer strong support and are commonly used with standard-width fence panels and concrete gravel boards. DuraPost® steel posts provide a slim, contemporary alternative that can be combined with compatible timber and composite fencing components.

Fence posts are available in different lengths and sections to suit low boundaries, standard garden fencing and taller privacy installations. The correct size will depend on the finished fence height, the use of a gravel board, the required depth below ground and the type of fencing being installed.

Choosing the Right Fence Post

Select the post material according to the desired appearance, fencing system and installation conditions. Timber posts provide a natural finish, while concrete posts are a popular option for strong traditional panel fencing. DuraPost® steel posts offer a modern, narrow-profile alternative with compatible accessories and finishing components.

Choose a post long enough to support the intended fence height while allowing sufficient depth below ground. Remember to include the height of any gravel board when calculating the total finished fence height.

Intermediate posts are used between standard panels, while end, corner and three-way posts may be required where the fence terminates or changes direction. Always check the post profile and slot arrangement before ordering.

Installation

Posts should be installed vertically, accurately spaced and securely fixed using a suitable post-mix concrete or installation system. The required hole depth and size will depend on the post length, ground conditions, fence height and exposure of the location.

Check the position of underground pipes, cables and drainage before digging. Allow post-mix concrete to set correctly before installing heavy panels or applying significant load to the posts.
